Description
Black XS was created in 2005 by Olivier Cresp. This perfume is definitely masculine. Knowing the desire of some women to wear men’s fragrances, it can be said that no woman would dare to wear Black XS despite of its soft and warm woodsy notes and even sweet notes of the drydown. Citrusy opening makes a great introduction into the sweet and spicy heart of the composition. Deep and dark sweet fruity notes of the heart are replaced by woodsy notes and amber in the base. In such sweet surrounding amber tends to take a tobacco nuance, while the musk tames the extreme masculinity of this scent. Black XS features fresh lemon notes, Kalamanzi fruit, tagetes, sage, praline, cardamom, cinnamon, Tou balsam, rosewood, black amber, patchouli and ebony.

I really like this a lot, I’m a fan of “black” and “dark” scents so I thought I’d give it a try and I’m glad I did….it does start out super sweet almost syrupy in the beginning can can be overpowering if u spray too much on at first, but it really mellows down after the first two hours, keeps a nice little scent bubble up to 4-6 hours, then it’s a skin scent but does stay on your clothes faintly after 24 hours…in describing the scent I have to agree with one user, that I totally get like a dark jammy strawberry scent, even tho it’s not in the notes, mabye that’s the praline, i get something like honey and vanilla, a deep dry woodiness that makes it masculine, its different…..if u like dark sweet ambery scents you’ll love it…I feel like I have a scent for every occasion… this is what Id wear if I’m going to go see Alice Cooper, or Marilyn Manson in concert… for sure

This starts out sweet and spicy with a hint of lemon and drys down to a dark Amber, patchouli. Where people get strawberry smell is beyond me, as there is no strawberry in “Black XS”. Maybe reviewing a flanker of it or something. I find it to be a unique masculine scent. Very good for cold nights.

This is one of my very favourite fragrances period. I love those one. I do believe smells are subjective. And not all frags smell amazing to all lol. But there is lots of weird comparisons that I don’t get at all am find impossible also. Makes me think that some might be reviewing the wrong black xs by mistake since there are so many. I own three and have had a sample of one. I Own the original black xs, black xs potion, black xs LA, and I had a sample of black xs lexcee. Black xs potion. Has lots of reviews saying it smells of strawberry milk… For me. The original black xs smells clean and sweet and zesty. The three most pronounced notes are definitely sage, lemon, praline. This fragrance is also a beast! It last and lasts and projects like crazy! And is a compliment king! It invokes cofindence and energy and richness. Black xs excees is the closest to it. But I find the original is much nicer done. Out of all four the original is my favourite. I will be reviewing black xs potion and La soon. But a quick tell is LA has the black xs DNA deep in there but it’s wrapped in a almost fresh herbal summer vibe. Potion is rounder less zesty and is sweeter and creamier.

Sweet, woody and sexy. It’s a projection king so you can almost dilute it a bit to wear safely. It lasts forever too and it’s one of them that my nose never gets anosmic to, for which I’m grateful. When wearing this, I feel more badass, it gives me the image of a pin-up lady wearing a fur coat while smoking from a cigarette holder, sipping on her milkshake with her beautiful red lips, slightly tilted on her stilettos waiting for her Italian beau in front of their vintage car. Somewhat trashy, undeniably sexy and not the easiest to pull off.
Ah yes, it’s been discontinued. So incredibly glad that a date decided to wear this and half-prudishly admitted his sexiness’s source was this.

This was one of the big loves at first sniff when I started to sample more frequently. I remember how good this used to smell but noways I find it quite average. I guess my taste have changed. It still has a certain appeal though.
Sometimes I get strawberries, sometimes I don’t. Either way, the opening is gone in ten minutes or so and after that a cinnamony woody nice scent will be on skin for a good while.

Important advice for Black XS: Only wear it in the winter!
The opening smells like synthetic strawberries. Sickly sweet. Then it becomes a unique sweet/spicy but pleasing scent unique to this fragrance. I like how it keeps the sweet notes after drying. I may be treading on toes here but it makes me think of a much (much much) sweeter version of Burberry London, one of the winter frag kings.
I re-discovered this buried in my collection and fell back in love with it after trying in the winter. It smells as though it should be a fresh, playful summer scent (and this is how I treated it originally) but it really is not and I tired of it quickly. The fragrance performs better and becomes 10x more appealing in colder weather. Perfect for the reasonably mild British winters. People will notice the scent in the winter, a nice unexpected surprise. In the winter it is a pleasant and comforting scent after dry down, especially if you get a whiff of it from your scarf during a winter walk. In the summer however it’s a sickly sweet unpleasant mess. A lot of people mention it as a nightclub fragrance. Again I disagree. There’s not much worse than encountering somebody in a hot, sticky nightclub who has bathed themself in Black XS.
If you haven’t experienced Black XS, give it a try to see if you like the unique dry down. If you have fallen out of love with Black XS, make sure you try it again in colder weather. As for age appeal: I think it can work as a casual scent for 30+, just stick to colder weather and wear sparingly in casual situations.

Totally wrong conception. The leveles of the pyramid doesn’t match. Black XS want to be a modern, young perfume, but the opening is terrible and smells like outdated, hardcore 80’s lemony-herbal stuffs. Few minutes the only thing what I get: 2-3 hours strawberry flavored chocolate with a hint of cardamom. This part of the perfume is not bad, totally unisex, but I think better suited to teenage girls. 2-3 horus later, the sythetic strawberry notes turning into something sweet-sour oldschool, rosewoody-patchouli-ambergris scent which is little bit oldfashioned… Same as the top note…

I bought another bottle from 2016: you still find the same ingredients as the first batches, with approximately the same proportions, but now it smells more like an eau de toilette.
Latest formulations removed a bit its sex appeal, which is too bad.

Bought this in the airport in Bahrain and wore it on my tropical Philippines vacation in 2012. So thick, so sweet! Might be too sweet for some guys, but if you don’t mind going the sweet route, this is fabulous. I absolutely love it. I’ve since smelled quite a few colognes that have the same scent, which I can’t recall off the top of my head. But I’m going to stick with this one and make sure it’s always in my collection.

I love Black XS L’Exces so had to try the original Black XS. I was intrigued by the descriptions of strawberry or strawberry ice cream.
I don’t get strawberry or anything fruity from this. It smells quite similar to L’Exces but there’s just something special about that one and the pineapple note is great. Black XS in comparison is a pass for me. I don’t even know how to describe the scent exactly. It’s sweet, fairly harsh and chemical smelling.

Lol You could use the same analogy with Black XS, it’s probably a bit too sweet, possibly a bit cloying and artificial for those of us who are further along the path of fragrance discovery, but despite our more sophisticated and educated tastes, there’s a part of us that always yearns for the instant gratification of a fragrance like Black XS – I love it, I don’t wear it outside my home, but hey, the world of fragrance is a diverse and beautiful one, I will always have a bottle of this wonderful offering in my world.

When I first tried this I really liked it, it was fresh and fruity. But with subsequent wearings it lost its appeal to me. It still smelled the same, but felt too youthful for mine. It was beginning to border on being a teeenagers choice, and maybe that’s where it’s aimed?
Definetely not for a sophisticated and mature male.
However, if you’re going to hit the clubs. I think this would be a winner.

Mango extravaganza, I don’t care if it’s not in the notes, is way too obvious. Whoever doesn’t get it is not from the tropic nor have ever eaten a ripe juicy mango.
I tried it at a store and immediately thought of mango, called my wife to ask her opinion without telling her mine, she immediately said “smells like mango” and that was it, I didn’t give it a chance to get to the middle notes because I wouldn’t like to smell like anything you can pinpoint immediately like a “strawberry perfume” for example (my wife used to buy cheap $3.00 or $5.00 “sprays” that do just that to be around the house) and prefer perfumes that use scents to create something new.
Edit: not saying is good or bad, just saying it wasn’t my cup of tea. Just to be clear.

Just finished mine ( in the winter ) and it’s a pleasant one. Nothing crazy but if you like a sweet type of smell ( not overdone but mid level ) with some other notes mixed to make it more masculine, you will enjoy this one.
For me, it’s a nice & pleasant but for me, It didn’t really catch any people to turn around and say “Wow” but “that smells nice”

I found an old bottle of this while unpacking boxes after a recent house move. I remember buying this blind when I couldn’t find any PR Ultrared after it was discontinued.
This is nothing like the beautiful Ultrared; this is a very cloying, sweet and artificial fragrance. Imagine a field of plastic flowers with mechanical bees buzzing over a molasses-sweet bubblegum smell…
Not that its all bad; I would wear this on casual outings, but it is a monster on my skin, filling the room with sweet, sweet fragrance. I would never wear this on a plane nor to the cinema / theatre; it would drive everyone crazy and not in a good way.
I live in a subtropical climate and I think this suits for summertime; it is difficult to find good fragrances to suit the climate but I now remember what Black XS’ strong suite is.

A nice dark citrus gourmand fragrance that basically reminds me of a dessert like chocolate strawberry cake. The opening gives a loud accord of a citrusy strawberry accord which is due to the notes of lemon and praline. Then it dries down to a very pleasant mixture of cinnamon, patchouli and rosewood which gives it a dark woody vibe with a little bit of sweetness. In my opinion, i think this fragrance is daring and unique as it strays away from the usual formulas for a mass marketed masculine scent.
In conclusion, its a good perfume for cold wintery nights and is very suitable for night outs. Furthermore, I can see women pulling off wearing this as well due to the sweet and citrus accords.
I would recommend this fragrance to teenagers and younger guys due to its not so serious nature. Longevity is ok, it gives me around 3-4 hours but sillage is little underwhelming since after the first hour it basically becomes a skin scent for me.
Overall a nice fragrance by Paco Rabanne where it pushes the boundaries in the masculine fragrance market.

In my opinion the Black XS is not as sweet as most people are writing. It is not as sweet as 1 Million but it smells me kinda fresh and really manly. It is more casual fragrance than formal. For formal meetings is Dolce&Gabbana The One EDP. I wanted to try the longevity so I sprayed once on the paper 24 hours ago and it still smells very good from 1 feet. I do recommend you to buy this fragrance for spring or fall. Summer is better with Dior Sauvage and winter is perfect with Armani Code Profumo. Overall opinion on this fragrance is good for man in age from 18 to 40. Later than I recommend something more gently.

Black XS is a nice masculine, quite powerfull, fresh-oriental scent, with noticeable smell of fruits, berries, little spicy and with a dominant sweet and sour apple-strawberry note which is not listed above. It is completely attractive and sexy without being girly at all.
The longevity is above the average, about 7-8 hours and the sillage is heavy with 2-3 sprays. I reccomend it for winter, autumn and cool spring days. The most distiguished notes are apple-strawberry (not listed), lemon and cardamom, but I do not get any praline at all, not even traces. The best characteristic about it, is its stability of the scent till the end. After 7-8 minutes, it stabilizes in a sweet-sour, apple-strawberry masculine oriental scent, almost addictive!!
I like it very much! Do you want compliments from the opposite sex? It is a decent choise!

Yes, it’s “sweet” indeed, as most people say.
It’s also soft and calm, nothing like One Million bomb.
Both opening and dry down smells very alike, there’s not much of a difference, like those fragrances that changes a lot after a few minutes.
My thought at this scent it that it’s discret, but fancy at the same time.
It does project at a good rate, but its scent it’s so soft and clean that people do not feel “invaded”.
Lasted a good 6-8hrs on my skin, projected for 3-4.
A very vesatile fragrance, that one would use for almost any ocasion.

i picked this up on a whim after repeatedly hearing bardot singing about paco rabanne in gainsbourg’s “ford mustang”, drawn to the gothic lettering and the word black.
the strawberry/pineapple blast that greeted me upon spraying was a huge surprise. it felt like something hannah montana would wear if she shopped at hot topic. while it’s kind of a pleasant summer scent, it also conjures up an image of someone downing smirnoff ices while living out some variation on teenage edgy.
definitely unisex but only for someone very young at heart.

Today I went to the perfume store with Black XS in my head. I tried this fragrance along with Halloween. In my opinion, both express pretty much the same concept. This fragrance is much sweeter than Halloween. Also I felt it a bit stronger in the opening. I must say that projection was weaker than Halloween, and about after 2 hours, it became a skin scent and Halloween was still there. At the end I bought Halloween but this is a delicious EDT.

waaaaay too sweet for my liking, the opening is like being bludgeoned in the face with a hessian sack full of candy and sugar.. except in the worst possible way. seems like it’s aimed at primarily men in their late teens / early 20’s, but i’m 24 and would absolutely not wear this. can see why it may appeal to some people, but it definitely isn’t for me.

Black XS smells in the beginning fruity à la 1 Million, but not as heavy. The main ingredient seems to be ISO E Super, this gives the fragrance a woody background.
In the drydown all the notes disappear and ISO E Super stays. So the fragrance is about 2 hours fruity and then just woody like many other fragrances based on this magic chemical.

Didn’t work for me. After reading the reviews and the notes that everyone seemed to get, I was hopeful that I’d get those notes on my skin. But I didn’t get sweet, chocolate or strawberry etc. that most seem to get.
A bit too strong for me also, so gave away my little decant of it to someone who hadn’t tried it. So far Paco Rabanne much like Dior doesn’t seem to agree with my chemistry.

بلک ایکسس با رایحه گرم و شیرین و میوه ایی با بازخورد عالی بین بانوان جوان
شروع رایحه با بوی آدامسی و خوشمزه و خوردنی شروع میشه که بسیار شبیه بوی آدامس توت فرنگی های باریک و تخت معروف هست که عاشقش بودم و بقدری از بو و مزه ش خوشم میومد که جویدنش یک دقیقه بیشتر طول نمیکشید و فوری قورتش میدادم
برعکس دوستان من فکر نمیکنم از نت توت فرنگی تو اینکار استفاده شده باشه و این بو رو حاصل ترکیب لیمو و پرالین که یه جور شکلات خیلی خوشمزه و خوشبوئه میدونم
بعلت قدرت اون بوی شبه توت فرنگی که از اول تا اواخر کار حضور پررنگی داره کار خطی جلوه میکنه و تقریبا اجازه خودنمایی به نتهای دیگه رو نمیده
در میانه کار اضافه شدنه هل گرمی و گیرایی کار بیشتر میشه و یکم ازون شیرینی ابتدایی کمتر میشه
رایحه همینطور ادامه داره تا اینکه با حذف شدنه تدریجی لیمو باعث میشه پرالین هرچند ضعیف اون بوی شکلاتی کاراملی خودشو بروز بده و تا آخر این روند رو حفظ میکنه
اگه طرف مقابلتون زیره ۲۵ سال سن داره برای تحت تاثیر قرار دادنش لازم نیست ۸۰۰ تومن هزینه توباکو وانیل کنین ، همین کلون ۱۷۰ تومنی کارتونو راه میندازه
البته این موضوع دلیل نمیشه فک کنین بزرگترا ازین رایحه خوششون نمیاد من از ۴۰ ساله ها هم بازخورد مثبت دیدم
موندگاری و پخش اینکار بخاطر ریفورموله شدنه چندباره افت کرده ولی همچنان ارزش خرید خودشو حفظ کرده
فقط برای تاثیرگذاری بیشتر باید از تعداد پاف بیشتر استفاده بشه

Can see where this fragrence is trying to go. Lemon, strawberries, slight chocolate. For me it’s just to much a mishmash. Dry downs alright but it’s to much to just get there.
First thoughts for my collection was this or diamonds black carot and everytime diamonds wins.
Why?
Simply Black XS is sweet going on look at me attention. Diamonds BC is just playboy bad boy with an attitude, dark and sensual side. But I’m not going to show it … It’s just there.
All in all Black XS is alright but for me a 6/10

Nice [ smokey/sweet ] fragrance.
Components are well-combined.
Longevity is good but somehow projection is not.
You can get the best of it after 1 hour of spraying.
For me I think it is best for night use.
Definitely masculine, there is no way this can be unisex.
I recommend this one.

One of my favourites. I get a very woody vibe from this one. Its longevity is surreal and definitely an amazing composition.
I must say that I don’t get any sweet notes here. Very masculine and it’s my go to fragrance on any given day. It is a great fragrance.

This smells euphoric and unnatural. I smell sweet strawberries. It’s playful and pleasant in moderation.
Masculine? Sure . . . if you want to render meaningless the word “masculine” (if the word had meaning to begin with). But young men can pull this off, and females love sweet scents like this.
Try before you buy.

It’s definitely one of the best perfumes ever made. It’s sweet though it’s masculine and also girls love it. It lasts for several hours and it’s really good for everyday use. I’ve been using it for the past 5 years occasionally and people have been asking me about my perfume. I also love other perfumes made by Paco Rabanne. The brand really grew on me.

I’ve Finally decided to love black XS for what it is and understand its qualities, some say Black XS is unique & rebellious, but Other people say that it’s too sweet, not masculine at all and has poor longevity & Sillage, others even regret their purchase of this. But It does has a nice and a good side of it, let me tell you whats the nice and good side of Black Xs,”Black Xs Dries Down to a nice Woody, spicy, and Warm intimate smell. I even realised that it lasts more than 7 hours, it’s just that sometimes when you can no longer clearly detect the top & Mid notes of this frag, you will think that it’s gone for good, but it’s actually there and the base notes are taking part now. The Middle notes last for something like 3-4 hours, and after that you will no longer detect them even if you take a closer sniff, all you can smell is the patchouli, black amber, brazilian rosewood and a little bit of spiciness of which i’m sure it’s cinnamon. That’s it, Black XS is not for everyone but it’s actually for those who love it, so all in all you have to love black XS in order for you to be able to acknowledge it, and you have to love it for what it is, and if you don’t love it, go for other frags that you think Shout Masculinity for your nose or buy Kouros and smell like civet all day.
