Dark earthy aoud. I get why some people say that this smells a bit like horse manure… But if so it is from the most pristine horse ever! Goes on strong and stays strong for a while. A bit of a powerhouse… Do not overspray.

I’ve tried my sample of this quite a few times, but it just doesn’t work with my skin. On me, it’s way too medicinal. The opening as some others have mentioned, is very, very strong, so be prepared to be slapped in the face. However, it’s not too bad once it settles, which takes around 30-40 mins. I still keep getting that medicinal note though, which normally doesn’t bother me, but there’s nothing balancing it out on my skin.
I really wanted this to work on me because the longevity and sillage are amazing. If this works on your skin, I’m truly jealous. Normally the note combo listed works well, but oud can be tricky on me sometimes, and I think this is the case with Black Aoud.
Overall, I’m so sad it doesn’t work for me. I’m sure on the right skin, it’s an amazing scent.

Pungent opening, beautiful drydown. Unfortunately, performance is so pathetic that the drydown doesn’t last long enough for you to enjoy it.
Very watered down for the price. AVOID!

Intense beginning, but after some time it becomes very nice rose-patchouli combination. I can’t feel oud, unfortunately at all.
For me this fragrance is very feminine, can’t imagine man wearing it.
    Longevity 8/10, silage 7/10.

I absolutely love this, it’s so good!
Deep dark red roses and musk sticks, you know the pink candy.
I recently bought a bottle of Labdanum essential oil, (which is a sticky resin) which I notice, accounts for some of the musky, sweet even smokey nuances.
Patchouli equally accounts for the presence of Oud.
There is a richness to it all that actually makes it very opulent.
It would take a particular character to wear it well.
It’s on the darker side and has hints of Tom Ford’s Noir.
    Personally I’ve never liked Rose’s,
    Until now!.
When I’m well dressed and feeling vampiric
in cooler months, it’s quite a statement.
    Classic.

This is a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde scent. It has loads of rose and loads of (undoubtedly) synthetic oud. I found my nose maxes out on the rose, but the oud just keeps ramping up the more heavily I spray. For my first test, I sprayed half a squirt knowing that I had an appointment in 30 minutes and not knowing how it was going to behave. With half a squirt, the rose was dominate, filling the entire room . . . and what a wonderful rose it is! Thrilled, I bought the bottle. Later that evening, I sprayed on two squirts which is my normal dosage until I get to know the scent a bit better. This time, the scent was almost completely synthetic, a raucous cacophony of chemical weirdness. What a bust! I went outside to get the mail. A gentle, humid breeze was blowing, filling the air with the rose once again. Huh? I went back inside and washed all the sprays off, then re-applied with one spray. This time, it was a dominant oud with a nice rose background. Thinking I must have gotten a bad bottle, I took it back to the store to compare with the sample bottle. For this test, I sprayed my bottle in the car, then walked 30 m into the store. What I didn’t expect was for it to be 102F (39C) outside with about 25% humidity. The rose boiled off around me and was practically gone by the time I got inside. I had to take my bottle into the store and do a side by side test on my hands with one squirt from my bottle and one from the sample bottle. They were the same.
The moral of this story? This scent changes (for me) with how it’s sprayed. Half a spray gives a light and airy rose scent (Dr. Jekyll). A full spray gives an oud scent with a rose background. Two sprays are just awful to my nose (Mr. Hyde). And it works best below 85F (29C) from my experience. I’m hoping for some cold days sometime in the next 3 months to try it at lower temperatures.
The rose lasts about 2-3 hours on my skin. The eventual dry down 6-7 hours later is a soft feminine patchouli that lasts and lasts and lasts.
At a half a squirt, this is a wonderful scent that can fill a room with a light, delicate rose. I’m happy I bought it.

    Black Aoud by Montale
    Reviewed from 100ml bottle
Summary: rosy, spicy, confrontationally beautiful in a bold, masculine way.
Montale’s iconic Black Aoud begins with a blast of dark, sweet rose framed with mandarin and a bright patchouli before an hour passes and the scent finds balance with the weighty, spicy oud coming forth. The boldness is notorious and rightly so – it’s more than just a strong-smelling fragrance; it’s a confounding, contradictory blend of notes that demands attention for its colors and whose masculinity is presented in a vividly unconventional way. This is due to more than just the fact that it’s a rose-dominant male scent; it owes its attention-grabbing nature to how bravely floral its rose notes are and how unforgivingly, undeniably dark its spicy oud base is. Other reviewers have cited its “vampiric” and “gothic” qualities and, cliche as these descriptions are, they are quite accurate. Black Aoud is the scent of heavy, wet roses weighing bountifully on a lavish wooden coffin at an evening funeral.
Technical: the projection is powerful and leaps off the skin, lasting at full strength for 3-4 hours before fading into the familiar Montale oud/musk during the long landing. The opening is all roses and comes across with a sweetness bordering on excessive – the weight of the spices needs some time to appear but, once balanced, it composes a welcome dark mixture.
Colors evoked: a matte, velvet black ringed with liquid purple and shot through with rivulets of neon blue
Musical accompaniment: River Of Nihil – “Terrestria III (Wither)”; Queen – “The March Of The Black Queen;” Dimmu Borgir – “Blood Hunger Doctrine;” Sade – “No Ordinary Love”
Timing: many declare this a cold weather scent but heat and sunlight trigger its spicy elements in a surprising way. While it truly is effective in dark, cold scenarios, it’s temperamental nature makes it work in the daytime just as well

Black Aoud..this is an acquired taste only. What I like about Montale is the quality of their juice. Montale Parfums produce excellent frags with superb longevity and projection/sillage. At the first spray itself it took me to Arabia..This is what an Arab sheikh would wear for the night out. The Oud (agarwood) is exceptionally strong as its name sake..yes it is dark…it is black.. other notes are subtle like patchouli and musk. while Montale is famous for their unisex frags i think this tilts to masculine. What type of person will wear this? A guy who is rich & “has arrived”. A family figure. Head of a company etc
Age group : 40 above. Definitely colder weather frag.
Based only on 2 gentle sprays to my body..:
    Scent : 6/10
    Longevity : 9.5/10
Projection: 9/10 ( first 3-4 hours is strong go slow on the trigger)
    Sillage : 8.5/10
(if they can’t smell u they need a nose surgery)
Overall a Good fragrance. Only an acquired taste and a frag for Frag users that wants more than elementary perfumes..Try it b4 u buy. Don’t BLIND BUY.

I got a sample of Black Aoud from Luckyscent. It is hard to explain. Smells feminine. There is rose and another floral smell. After wearing it for awhile another smell comes out. I don’t know what it is, but I don’t like.

    Fragrance -Black Aoud Montale
    Bottle(roll-on) from – 2015
This fragrance reminds me of a brave knight who spent so much time watching the bad things in the fight against the Dark side.
Black Aoud opens on my skin with a dark, pungent, moderatly sweet, waxy and a bit dry rose with a hint of mandarin laying on top of a medicinal oud.
During mid development, rose becomes a bit stronger and more intense with a wisper of spices and resinous labdanum.
Soon enough,a bit warm earthy patchouli starts to emerge, softening the harshness of the intense, resinous, spicy and a bit animalic rose.
This all leads into a musky, oudy, resinous and woody base with dominant oud and patchouli and with a wisper of a tamed rose.
Black Aoud has some similarities to Black to Black by Mancera.
    Longevity – 10/10(12+hours)
Silage/Projection – 10/10(heavy projection and silage for the first 3-4 hours)
    Weather – autumn and winter.
    Age – 27+
    Compliments – 8/10
    Scent – 10/10
Main notes according to me -rose,oud,patchouli,musk,labdanum,spices.
The drydown is musky, oudy, resinous and woody and I get some oud, patchouli, resins, rose and musk.
Emotions -brave knight in the fight against the Dark side, dark vibe elegance, menacing, dangerous, mysterious.
Occasion -Perfect for special occasions, nights out and formal and semi-formal events.
Don’t blind buy this one.Try before you buy.

    Does it have rose? Yes.
    Does it have patchouli? Yes.
Are they both turned up to 11? YES.
Is it beast mode? Bomb mode.
Will it spread its tentacles and choke everyone in a 2 meter radius? You bet.
If you are on board with such a character, you’ve found true love.
This fragrance can be seen as an uncompromising masterpiece – one that couldn’t care less about what Joe Random thinks of it. Yet, rest assured that it’s not unpleasant; the aforementioned ‘tentacles’ can be your cozy bed if you love a bed of dark, earthy roses.
Despite the highly favorable ratings here, I’d highly recommend you try before you buy. At the same time, every fragrance enthusiast worth their salt MUST try this. This is the kind of fragrance that people will be talking about half a century or more later.

Montale’s “Black Aoud” is a quite redolent of Mancera’s “The Aoud”, “Wild Rose Aoud”, “Gold Rose Oudh” by Tiziana Terenzi and “Oud Oriental” by S.T. Dupont. The rose + oud combo isn’t spectacularly inimitable. But this frag is actually in a league of its own as it lasts really long and projects well too.

Huge, suffocating roses. Grandmother-type roses. The scent projects very far. They will be able to smell you in the next room. Good appetite suppressant, as it’s hard to eat when this strong smell is coming off of you.
Good for the cold. Medicinal oud gives the rose an edge, not that the rose really needed an edge. Strong, overpowering.
It’s not unpleasant. It may make some people’s heart skip a beat literally, I can see this putting someone into arrhythmia – and it may choke some people out, but it’s not disgusting. The huge roses are actually a bit comforting.
    Dark rose, black rose.

YSL M7 may have introduced the note Oud to the western nose but it’s Black Aoud that made Oud a mainstream note. A dark and mysterious, if not a bit eerie, fragrance.
A big and bold rose/oud combo that many try to imitate but BA remains the O.G. I own both BA and Mancera Black to Black. They are similar but each has its own nuances.
BA has a strong patchouli note that makes it dry and earthy whilst B2B is more balsamic and resinous.
    Black Aoud, we salute you!

First very rosey, then also oudy and patchouly. Me like.
I wouldn’t describe it as black oud. More like herbal rose.

I have the International ‘black bottle gold top’ version of this gem, its by far one of the strongest performers in my collection, stronger than its Intense flanker, Manceras black to black and Amouages interlude man (magnetic reformed version) at least on my skin of which I own all three now including the new Black Aoud Intense to make it 4.
Straight up Patchouli bomb and in my opinion better than the rest bearing in mind it is not the made in france version which is now the only one now in production.
    Unique and distinctly unisex.
    Absolute classic.

Montale is without a doubt a landmark in modern perfumery: launched eastern perfumery into western world and made it understandable ;introduced Aoud, attars,Mukhallat, amber and Rose to us in a different way and without the cultural cliches and its glittering gold bottles. Rose as we thought was never popular and meant to be wear by males in western world.Montale show us for the first time how Arabic perfumes smell and how roses smells like ,there was no rose dominant perfumes for male or female like the Montale’s before with that degree of intensity and realism, rose based perfumes were weak, clear, sweet, herbal and old fashion constructed, smelled like granny’s eau de cologne, completely uninteresting and too feminine to be wear by a man.
    Black Aoud:
Opens with an explosion of amber meteorites. The rose is infused in Frankincense, enriched with sandalwood, musk, ambergris,Aoud and other exotic resins and spices. The musk and frankincense add a provocative and untamed sensuality to the rose, and the amber and sandalwood add creaminess. As the perfume unfolds this magic and bewitching blend, the dark red rose becomes Herculean, rich, musky, mineral, intense, dense, ambery, lusty, powdery, inviting, sensual, erotic, seducing, captivating, projecting an aura of elegance and exoticism. The 1001 nights.
There is more on the palette than just rose and rose as many comments suggest. I think in general, people disliking or with mix ups feelings about Black Aoud have never smelled and experience pure rose oils ,natural essential oils and not familiar with Arab blends.Too complex and too many things to be decoded for a non trained nose. This abstraction for the mind is what keeps confusing people.
Montale Black Aoud is a Materpiece like many Montale perfumes, a must have for any perfume lover.

Ive tried a sample and my experience is …
that this fragrance has a rubbery syntethic smell and a rose smell which to me makes it smell like some sort of wine, especielly before spraying it.
At first it may come out as feminine, but I feel that the rubbery syntethic smell put’s it back on the masculine spectrum. The smell grew on me.
I wouldn’t say a typical young girl would wear this. For a moment it made me feel it smells like an old lady, but then I feel this fragrance got some sexy vibe to it that probably don’t fit most old ladies.
I could see a person with long hair and black clothes, either sex.
Sadly I think I am allergic to it, which probably is an argument to not use it as an everday fragrance. Even if you are not allergic yourself.

This is a great rose and oud fragrance that does not wear out until you take a shower. Stellar performance with stellar projection. It smells rich and opulent and their is not much chance that any one else in the same room as you will ever be wearing it, as it is not easily available in the shops. Black to Black by their Sister company “Mancera” is a tad nicer in my opinion, but don’t get me wrong, I love Black Aoud.
It is well with the price. I will never be without this perfume.

    Black Aoud 🙁
All my favorite notes in one bottle, I blind bought it and it disappointed me.
I love the dry down (musky) onnnly if you spray 3-4 sprays maximum.
Its a very very very heavy scent that will last on you for a very long time.. I think its the patchouli, too much of it.
ريحته قوية وايد، من العطور اللي تتوفق معاها إذا رشيت رشتين مثلاً، بس إذا رشيت أكثر بتزعج عمرك واللي حولك – حنى يوم تبرد الريحة.

Review based on a bottle purchased directly from Montaleparfums.com, therefore on an original batch sourced from the most reliable seller – the official online store.
Black Aoud is not even half of the perfume it used to be. Sillage and longevity are simply not there anymore, with the perfume approaching the skin scent category.
Black Aoud is watered down, lasts 2/3 hours on my skin, barely leaving a trace afterwards.
Black Aoud smells different than it used to, with more synthetic notes to it and less of that gorgeous, mouth-watering and natural rose-oud mix.
After applying the tester version on my skin, sillage and longevity were considerably higher.
This is not only sad, but also an insult to all fans of this fragrance.
I am having my bottle shipped back to Montale, and if they refuse to refund or send the real deal, I’ll crush their reputation to pieces.
    [update #1]
After all, I’ve desisted. I’ve let the perfume sit for a while, tested other bottles from perfume shops around the city, and it’s just the same deal. It’s a bit watered down, and more synthetic than before.
Still, I would not call it a skin scent, as I did in the previous update. It projects powerfully for the very first hour of its life on the skin. Spray some on your chest and you’ll get whiffs all day.
Black Aoud Intense is just the same, only a tad bit more powerful. Nothing stellar.

The stats are already listed so I will focus on the mood.
This fragrance is somewhat vampiric. I think it best suits a person who is primarily melancholic in temperament with hidden choleric influence. On anyone else, this fragrance will seem too serious, brooding, and old-fashioned.
Additionally, I think it would suit a person who embodies the ‘still waters run deep’ archetype. Someone passionate but very reserved on first meeting. Superficially standoffish and alienating but not intentionally so.
This scent is on the masculine side to my nose, but I wouldn’t be too surprised to find it on either sex.
I do not think it suits me so I won’t be re-sampling. However on the person described above, it has the potential to be very attractive.

    Montale sample extravaganza round 5!!!
So far all but 2 of the Montale samples I’ve tried have been awful. There is something very synthetic and piercing in many of the Montale I’ve tried and I can’t quite place what it is. Perhaps a really synthetic oud? or some other creation that they put into their DNA?
Anyhow, those that have seen me post and read my reviews know that I can’t stand Rose/Oud, or rose forward fragrances at all as they come out way too feminine on me.
That’s the case here as well, but, I actually kind of like this fragrance (when it gets to the drydown) so here we go:
First impression: This starts off with a really piercing, synthetic rose/oud combo with a plastic/rubber smell…..this harshness lasts for a good 20-30 min up to an hour depending (when I first sprayed this, it didn’t last as long and now it’s taking forever for the top notes to dissipate)
Midway: As the top notes start to taper off, you still get a strong rose/oud combo and the soft musk starts to come into play too (those that selected patchouli here……huh?! lol where?? I don’t get any of that at all) it’s pretty feminine so far….I can’t see many guys pulling this off…and especially me, who despises rose/floral male fragrances. I can also vaguely smell the mandarin….it’s a “canned mandarin” like the ones you’d put in salads….it’s subtle, but it’s there.
Full drydown: This actually comes off quite nice!!! For me to be saying that, the ultimate hater of rose forward fragrances, that’s pretty imressive!! The rose turns into a very warm, comforting, non-intrusive rose….you get a much nicer wood/oud smell with it…not synthetic smelling or harsh at all. I still don’t detect any patchouli but I can detect hints of the labdanum and a warm musk, not overpowering or “old” smelling, but just right.
Now, I don’t think I could ever buy a bottle of this as I don’t think I’d ever wear this, nor do I think it’s something a man should wear (but that’s just my opinion) but this is one of the first rose/oud fragrances that I’ve been able to tolerate and not want to wash off.
That being said though, there are so many warm/rose/oud fragrances out there that I am not sure this sets itself apart from the rest. I haven’t sampled many of them, because I just don’t care for them, but I know there is probably better than this. Incense Oud by Kilian (which I hated btw) probably does a better job at this although the rose in that was too overpowering for me.
Try this if you’re into this category of fragrances, you might like it, definitely give it time to settle….you gotta play the waiting game with this one…as I am sitting here typing this, it still hasn’t finished it’s dry down completely….so be patient and see if you like it.

The opening is a bit sharp, but after its very classic oudish but more a rose scent. Rose of no man’s land from this kind of perfumes is my favorite, though this one makes a good replacement

Total sillage monster that smells (rather reeks) of roses and Oud. It is definitely an attention grabber and has a loud explosive opening that calms down after a while. One of the most gothic smelling perfumes out there, this may not get you the positive attention you need. Tread with caution.

i tried this many years ago and I couldn’t stand it. I don’t want to piss anyone off who are fans of this but it really wasn’t for me. Maybe I was new at the time to Niche perfumery so I had a worse reaction than I would now.. I don’t know. It just was super strong on the rose and it reminded me of an old lady smell on crack. Couldn’t stand it. I much rather have had the red aoud over this one. I haven’t tried many montale fragrances, but my favorite is Chocolate greedy.. Oh yeah and when I wore black aoud my friend threw me out of his car…
when I tried it back in 2009
    Scent 1/5 – personal preference.
performance 5/5. was beast as hell back then. Not sure if its still the same in 2017

  32. :

    4 out of 5

Even though I don’t consciously like this scent, there is a part of me that actually enjoys it on some level. I sprayed it onto a tissue and was initially horrified. Everything that people say here is true – it’s a strong synthetic rose with the oud barely discernible. But when I came back into the room, I thought, “What’s that smell? I like it!” Then I realized it was the synthetic rose.
I used to think I had reasonably sophisticated tastes, but maybe this proves I don’t. Or maybe there is something to like about this fragrance after all. Will update sometime in the future.
When it comes to oud and rose, I really like Jesus Del Pozo’s Arabian Nights. That starts off rosy then dries down to a nice woody masculine scent. Yet still there is something interesting about this Black Aoud that I can’t put my finger on.
Update: This scent has exactly the same rose accord or aromachemical as Jesus Del Pozo’s Arabian Nights. It’s not just similar – it smells identical to me. I think that is the source of interest. Unlike Arabian Nights, the rose is not just a prelude to a woody drydown. It’s the whole scent.
Update 2: Even though I don’t normally like rose notes, this artificial rose note is OK. It’s because the artificial rose note is much thinner than a more natural rose note. To me, the natural rose note (whether Bulgarian, Damascus or Turkish) is suffocating and heavy, but this synthetic rose note is light and transparent.
Update 3: The rose note in this scent is not exactly the same as in Jesus Del Pozo Arabian Nights for men. It’s similar but not identical. But it is still compelling.

For me and for my skin this fragrance is absolutely amazing.
Strong combination of rose and oud which it lasts and lasts for many hours.
Just a raccomandation: go easy with the trigger. 3 spray, 1 on the left and 1 on the right of your neck + 1 on the chest.
    Then, wait for the magic.
Get so many compliments to me: I think it depends on the chemistry of your skin.
My number one and my signature fragrance.

    Lots of roses.
    Lots of roses, again.
And again … and again …
    Never stops.
    From morning to shower.
    And even after that ….
That would not be a problem if the fragrance were pleasurable which is not at all the case.
It smells like a woman wearing a beard and tie.
    Definitly not a unisex fragrance.
    Waste of money.

  36. :

Nice. Lots of rose. I mean loads and loads. Oudish. But mostly rose. Very nice. Kinda boring though.

  37. :

    4 out of 5

I’m a big fan of real agarwood, and incense in general, I think it’s in the top 10 best scents in the world. So I am biased in favor of anything that tries to capture that scent. Black Aoud by Montale is creamy and warm. The rose is prominent, warm and sensual. It’s more unisex than masculine. Rose is a really hard smell to maintain with oud, as the woody opponent can easily overtake anything. But the rose here maintains it’s own stardom and doesn’t waiver. There is just the slightest hint of citrus, which elevates the rose. I think it’s lovely but the rose does overpower the oud, in a powdery dry manner, which isn’t as pleasant 7.5/10
Edit: After coming back to it after awhile it still smells lovely, and it’s darker now too which is a great improvement.

  38. :

    3 out of 5

See, a lot of Montale’s are oud, rose, musk, & sandalwood mixed in different quantities & infused with some other notes at lower quantity to add some variation. The result is Montale fragrances smelling quite similar that you could tell “Oh, is that Montale you’re wearing?”.
Well, Black Aoud is arguably the best product of this equation. It’s a very rosey oud with a hint of patchouli & orange, although I swear I smell some lemony citrus as well, to keep it fresh.
It’s quite a lovely smell, to be honest, in the sea of oud of fragrances in the market.
The performance is unquestionable! Strong sillage & long longevity.
If you can find it for a reasonable price, that’s the same price group as D&G The One & Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million, then it’s golden.
However, I can suggest a few fragrance for literally half the price or lower that give the same vibe & with very strong performance as well, those being: Hajar by Syed Junaid, Oud by Asgharali, & Faqat Lil Rijal by Rasasi. They are listed by how good they are, & honestly, the first 2 are better in my opinion that Black Aoud.
All the best in the hunt for oud.

It is what it is because of its beast performance and not because of how it smells actually. The fragrance is nothing but Oud and Rose oil blending. Smells like attar oil available in Indian attar shops, where Rose and Oud blending is highly sought after.
Super overrated fragrance due to its performance.
Do not fall prey to reviews, try few times before buying any fragrance.

It went on smokey and balsamic then the rose started to shine through but still submitting to the oud. In the dry down, the oud fades and the rose takes center stage but a drier, herbal rose, not a jammy one. This maintains its balsamic character.

This is really a good perfume…
BUT it should have been called “Black Rose” since the oud note vanishes after just one hour while the rose lasts forever…Also I can feel just these 2 notes… Anyway it’s really a good combo

This is a great fragrance…very aoud-ish, aoud-like, aoud bent; no matter how you try and distinguish this, you will come to an aoudy result.
[Thanks to my frag bro-Jabbara97 for being gracious with a sample to test-thanks friend!]
First, although this is Montale’s Black Aoud, this is very reminiscent of Mancera’s-The Aoud. Same family, (in terms of company spilt) having similar tastes, packaging, etc. across the board…. Black Aoud is a nice sweet rose fragrance that gives off this almost creamy, but sharp, sweet, pungent accord. The Rose, Agarwood, Patchouli, Musk, and Mandarin Orange really work well together giving off this wonderful array of notes yet blended together nicely!!
Because I already own The Aoud, might be a bit redundant to have both of these in the wardrobe (at least at the moment)! If the right deal comes along, I might have to change my mind……[again, if you have one, you don’t need the other]
I would say masculine by gender, yet unisex!
Word of caution: Be careful with the trigger as this could get cloying if you are not conscious of the amount sprayed! Could clear a room….
    Projection and longevity are great!
Performance and silage are above average!

Got this in a package of samples from LuckyScent and pulled it out today not having read anything about it.
Opening note is nothing but rose. At first I thought it was misnamed, since Black Rose would be more appropriate. We will see how this develops…
… now a couple of hours later and the scent profile has not really changed. A nice, somewhat dark, rose scent. Plenty of sillage and I suspect longevity as well. I have a soft spot for rose since I remember from my boyhood in the 60s getting slapped with Butch Hair Wax at the barbers. That was a rose scent, but then rose went away for male after shave / cologne in my teenage and young adult years. So this brings me back.
Another sample in the LuckyScent collection is Amouage Lyric, which of course is also a rose bomb. It has been a couple of weeks since I tried the Lyric but as I recall that one is a bit ‘brighter’ Rose – more on the feminine side. Perhaps it is the oud which tilts this one more masculine although I would not know what oud smells like if it came up to me and shook hands. They are both great fragrances and merit additional side by side testing.
Like the Lyric, this one has heavy sillage and projection so easy on the trigger. Also perhaps best in cooler weather.

This is a little too strong for me. Well, maybe not just a little, this stuff is obnoxious as hell.

Black Aoud it’s not for everyone. Then, it’s very dark and exotic fragrance. Nowadays, a lot of are aquatic, fresh… Black Aoud it’s opulent. Then, not a versatile option. Rather, for cold nights and special ocassions.
Sincerely, I like very much this Montale creation (one of my favourite niche fragrances). My only issue it’s that my mother said me that it’s not very masculine hehe. But IMO Black Aoud it’s masculine in spite of the rose.
In summary, a unique fragrance with an arabian feel. For me it’s enough synthetic, like all Montale creations, for a niche house but at least it’s different and it has wonderful performance.
