Description

Edelweiss is the first fragrance created by Brigitte Witschi, the founder and perfumer of “art of scent-swiss-perfumes”. This is a Swiss perfume house and its mission is to capture the beauty of wild Alpine nature.

Edelweiss was used as love spells and then given as tokens of love.

The head note of this scent calls to mind the soft, velvety whiteness of the Edelweiss itself.

The heart note is a resounding light and flowery harmony whose luminous power underlines this mountain blossom.

The base note is inspired by its velvety soft blossom leaves, which lend themselves to a warm, powdery, and yet mysterious scent.

This fragrance surrounds you with a gentle freshness, which slowly settles into a powdery, enchanting whiff.

The fragrance is available in eau de parfum 50ml (1.7 o.z) and in a roll-on 10ml.

Bergduft No 1 Edelweiss was launched in 2008.

I have no idea whether the edelweiss flower has any fragrance, but I suspect not. I’ve seen them up close and personal, growing in the Alps, and at that time didn’t notice any fragrance. What I’m pretty sure of, however, is that edelweiss doesn’t smell like citrus, lavender and sandalwood, which are the first three notes to hit my nose in Bergduft’s rendition.
Then comes the vanilla, accompanied by very light floral notes, not really recognizable as jasmine or iris, although the composition does become a little bit powdery after a while. The sandalwood-vanilla combination reminds me of the drydown of Samsara, but here it’s right up front.
I guess I’m a sucker for sandalwood-vanilla, because I really like Edelweiss despite its non-olfactory associations with a song I strongly dislike and an odd-looking little greenish flower. How predictable that this was the sample that leaked in transit, leaving only a small amount in the vial. Surprisingly, this is a perfume that I would consider FB-worthy.

The bright lemony opening of Bergduft EDELWEISS is definitely an attention grabber. However, I’m not sure that it really fits with the simple floral drydown, which smells to me rather like a cornflower solifore, as odd as that may sound.
EDELWEISS is one of those perfumes that combine stages each of which is likeable enough but which somehow clash when taken together as a single composition. Imagine a woman with classic, noble features who decides because of societal pressure and the rampant images of a certain type of “beauty” to have rhinoplasty. The doctor deposits Christie Brinkley’s (or Claudia Schiffer’s or Heidi Klum’s…) nose in the middle of her face, and it just looks strange. There’s nothing wrong with the nose, and there’s nothing wrong with the face. But taken together, something just seems somehow slightly off.
I don’t mean to suggest that I have any deep problem with EDELWEISS. I like the gentle, innocent, foot-of-the-Alps-in-the-springtime floral drydown quite a lot. It’s just that I was revved up by the opening for something with a bit more zing to it. I do think that the quality of the components is excellent, as is the longevity, and I’ll look forward to trying the other two Bergduft offerings in the not-too-distant future.

I received a bottle of this and samples of the 2 other perfumes by Bergduft last week. I’d like to thank Fragrantica and Brigitte Witchi for giving me such a great opportunity to try these.
Of all the three fragrances, i must say that i really love Edelweiss the most. In fact, i am extremely enjoying it and would seriously consider purchasing another bottle, once i finish this one.
On my skin, Edelweiss starts off with a bit of a citrusy kick, then it goes on to become smooth and creamy, yet retaining a bit of the initial zesty freshness in its edges. The dry-down is rather sweet but very pleasant, not at all overpowering. It maintained a very good balance from the beginning right to the very end.
My mother mentioned the same, but also added that it’s a very delicate and refined fragrance, with which i wholeheartedly agree.
First time i wore it, the dry-down slightly reminded me of Nuit De Neblina by Yves Rocher… except Edeleweiss is not remotely heady and/or sharp, and definitely DOES NOT induce a headache as much as Nuit De Neblina does for me.
By the second time i wore Edelweiss, the similarities to NDN were already gone, maybe because my nose got accustomed to enjoying Edelweiss much more then NDN.
In spite of me comparing it to NDN, i agree with Trinity – Edelweiss is definitely unique. It’s a great daytime fragrance, can be worn for the office with no problems. Personally, i also like to wear it before i go to sleep – i find it relaxing and that it gives me sweet dreams!
The European mountain flower, Edelweiss (in German; Edel=Noble Weiss=White), is rare and protected. There are numerous songs that were written about it. One of which was featured in The Sound of Music. Another one that i know of is by Vladimir Vysotsky.
Edelweiss is also used in an array of symbols such as being the unofficial national flower of Switzerland. IMO, the essence and spirit of this flower are beautifully conveyed in the fragrance, creating a wonderful experience. Highly recommended indeed.

I received “Edelweiss” a couple of days ago (thanks Fragrantica!) and I have enjoyed to wear the fragrance ever since!
“Edelweiss” starts off quite innocent and clean smelling! The delicate, fresh fruity notes make this fragrance quite pleasant and enjoyable.
The first couple of minutes remind me a lot of “Lei” by Giorgio Armani but after about 10 to 15 minutes, the flowers emerge and give the fragrance a light powdery appearance which I like very much.
The longer it stays on my skin, it better it gets!
The middle and base notes are very, very beautiful! In fact, on my skin it turns in something quite similar to “Tocade” which I truly adore but seldom wear during the daytime, since the scent is very seductive and sensual and not fit for the office. I am therefore so very happy that “Edelweiss” has the “Tocade-touch” but is office-friendly. The scent is by no means a copy-cat of “Lei” and “Tocade”, no it just reminds me of these two a bit. “Edelweiss” is quite unique!
Although, the scent is delicate, it lasts quite a long time on my skin. Actually, it stays with me for the whole working hours. The scent itself stays rather close to the skin but still manages to get noticed by others who will comment, that they “smell something really nice” and therefore like to stay close to you.
I think, “Edelweiss” can be easily worn all year around. It is warm enough for autumn and winter and delicate and light enough to please you during spring and summer.
“Edelweiss” is a very nice fragrance! Legend has it that the “Edelweiss-Flower” was given as a love token to your beloved as a promise of true and faithful love! Bergduft has managed to capture the essence of this rare flower perfectly: It is pure, innocent, and also sensual. Highly recommendable!

Thank you for this info! I knew that this first fragrance by Bergduft would be the most interesting. I like Trouble, and wish Bergduft be available here in the USA!
