Description

Jul et Mad introduce their new fragrance named Aqua Sextius, which will premiere at the perfume expo Esxence in Milan, taking place at La Triennale de Milano from March 20 to 23, 2014. This edition is characteristic for its luminous compsoition, whose light green liquid reflects a breath of spring. The name Aqua Sextius originates from Latin name Aix-en-Provence, where owners of the house, Julien and Madalina, got married, have their home and enjoy love.

The composition starts with sparkling and luminous citrus zests of bergamot, mandarin, orange and grapefruit, which are cooled down additionally with tea notes and powdery mimosa blossom. The heart highlights sea notes mixed with scents of white flowers, fig and pine tree resin. The base is woody and resin-like, composed of labdanum, amber, cedar, guaiac wood, oak moss and musk. The blend evokes fresh forest notes and the fragrant earth of Provence. The fragrance is signed by perfumer Cecile Zarokian.

Jul et Mad Aqua Sextius arrives in the characteristic bottle form and is available as 50 extrait de parfum. The owners also introduced special travel packaging as 20 ml named Le Compagnon, which is also ideal for those who want to test the fragrance before purchasing a large bottle. Le Compagnon bottle will be available starting with the month of May 2014.

It is important to mention that all Jul et Mad packaging has been changed. The perfumes are now available in boxes made of grey leather, and besides the perfume bottle, each box also contains a 7ml travel bottle full of fragrance which can be refilled. For miniature lovers there is also a LOVE DOSE 5ml bottle available with all four perfumes.

A fresh scent that turns male’ish on my skin. Very nice on a man, I think. A bit skinclose – I have a splash-sample – maybe a bit “louder” when you spray on skin.

Was lucky enough to visit a local perfumery near my house and sample this in the wake of all the hype last year. I purchased a sample to give it a full wearing, despite being wearied by the drydown it presented on card. As expected, it turned out to be just as disappointing in the full wearing I gave it.
Aqua Sextius does open up with a very bright, juicy sweet citrus accord. It’s very appealing actually. But the fragrance quickly dries down (like literally in 60 seconds) to a stale aquatic, faceted with various tinges that are hard to distinguish as anything more than musky. All the positive qualities become this singular mélange of sour aromatics that’s very off-putting.
It gives me the impression of a high-class escort reference of some kind. Everything seems all too perfectly at first…but it’s over all too quick…and then you get robbed. It just isn’t worth it in the least. Strongly recommended to sample before buying, as this could be an experience that you’re sure to regret otherwise.

During that time I wear it, there is a light & calm aquatic vibe. This one is not synthetic against a lot of aquatic fragrance. Aqua Sextius open with very sharp citrusy notes specially bergamot & lemon. You can imagine a sparking citrusy juice for 10 min. Main accord appear as fig woody sense in the middle that reminds me of womanity by thierry mugler but here is more light & balance. Finally in the base a pleasure mix of lovely notes such as amber & musk complete this woody-aquatic fragrance. Strong longevity & good silage about some hours.

    Marine – citrus – woodsy
    Color impression: turquoise
Nothing pushes the red button like niche aromatics and aquatics with tracks of Cool Water and Bvlgari Aqva, nevertheless, Zarokian perfectly knows how to make wonder. She employs embossed citrus top to give way to salt-free ocean water and sunny fresh woody base, all flanked by a tinge of floral undertone. It’s a commonplace woody aquatic, yet surprisingly unique, magically bold with day-long tenacity.

Good, fresh, aromatic but very expensive for summer…something similar, high quality, but no so expensive, for me it’s “L’eau des Eperides” di Dyptique or the wanderful “eaux di Francis Kurkdjian.

I love this scent, I’ll be honest.
Nowadays, I am approaching the “bottom line”, that is to say, I am about to see the emptiness in my flask.
I’ve only been intending writing a review on this masterpiece. This fragrance is so complex and multi-faceted. It sometimes happens that I can smell a few single notes: the pine tree needles, the musk, the cedar and the tea. Notwithstanding my inept investigations, each and every day, when I wear the scent, I am in the “kingdom not of this world”. Aix-en-Provence? Alas, I have never been to The City of 100 Fountains. I wish I had been there. If Aqua Sextius truly renders “le entourage” of the resort, it have to be one of the most beautiful and most wonderful places on Earth.
I believe that Julien and Madalina did bear witness to the truth. BTW, they are very amiable, super kind, cheerful and down-to-earth persons. Their main virtue is that they are discovering the beauty of the world – in the form of marvellous odours – and they do enjoy sharing the findings with us, perfume enthusiasts.
The juice is very concentrated. I use it sparingly and hence reach the longevity that exceeds 12 hours “in neutral”. Taking into account its “sillage”, it is neither a monster nor a skin scent. Well, lest there should be any misunderstanding, Aqua Sextius projects subtly but it does draw the attention of people in a wearer’s immediate vicinity.
    Both thumbs up!

I really like Aqua Sextius,… a lot! If it would not be for the hefty price tag I would definitely buy a bottle at some point. To me it smells really good and complex enough. It really takes me through the 3 different stages it’s build on.
First there’s this wonderful fresh citrus opening with a distinct tea note and a touch of mimosa, sweet and delicate.
Then in the mid phase I can clearly detect sea notes, fig and a hint of pine.
In the dry down it gets slightly balmy with labdanum and amber.
The hefty price tag is explainable due to the fact it’s an extrait de parfum.
I find it has good longevity!
I would love to have it, but… not for that price I guess 🙁

This smells really like “Womanity” by Thierry Mugler.
I would rate it slightly higher since it doesn’t have the peculiar ‘Asian food market’ muskiness of Womanity, but there’s no denying the similarity.
Quite frankly, it smells rather synthetic and most of the notes listed aren’t really detectable apart from musk and a cloud of sharp, salty calone and citrus.
€240 for this is a giant waste of your money if you ask me. Stick with Womanity, or one of its variants, and you will have the same aquatic effect for so much less.

Disappointing. Too similar to Dyptique’s Oyedo, and with a chemical current (hydroxicitronellal?). Jul etMad have beautiful perfumes such as Amour de Palazzo or Terrasseen Saint Germain, but this one…not really worth the hefty price tag.
