what a zing of colours in the opening! bright yellow citrus, green tea and spice…some ylang shows too
sadly the drydown is not great, falls very flat and somethings is off with it (maybe the nutmeg…)

I’ve been working my way through a Micallef sampler pack with increasing frustration (the house style is all a bit classically-French and old-fashioned in a sort of 70s-80s way rather than older vintage, and many of the feminines are far far far too sweet for me, while the masculines are too butch…) but this one is an absolute winner.
I wasn’t expecting much of this. Was ready to be disappointed because a/ the Micallef house style, b/ tea scents never work or last, c/ many things I’ve tried called chai or tchai or cha or what have you have had no resemblance to tea at all. But this ended up as a surprisingly strong like. It shares a basic chassis of warm amber and woods with Ananda Dolce, which was a total scrubber on me, but Tchai is an altogether more agreeable experience because it replaces Dolce’s horrendously overbearing peach (and much nicer almond & almond blossom) with a bunch of well-defined and detailed spices and a really surprisingly tenacious and realistic green tea.
Now what you really want with those spices is a good black tea scent IMHO, but black tea seems to be almost impossible for perfumers to pull off – so this is a green tea, but one which doesn’t ring metallic, even though there are some citric overtones in there as well. The overall impression is just lush and opulent and soothing, without being clammy-cloying or smothering (like Ananda Dolce is on me.) And the tea really hangs on, quite exceptionally from my experience, with real integrity and somehow managing to mediate completely successfully between the cooler citrus and warmer spice notes. Maybe the fern and ylang ylang also help to knit it together, though they’re much more discreet.
Quite femme, but could be unisex for someone seeking a very gentle and sweet take on oriental spice. Sillage medium, longevity on the stronger side of medium.

I received a sample of this fragrance a few days ago and I have to say that I love it. As a man, I have no probklem wearing this wonderful perfume. I would love to smell it on a woman, but I think it smells great on me as well. It lasts and projects and has excellent sillage.

    The correct notes:
Top notes – Bergamot and lemon.
Heart notes – Green tea, nutmeg, heliotrope, thyme, fern, ylang ylang and rose,
Base notes – Spices, white musk, cedar, amber, woods and vanilla.
Received a sample of this today. The scent has just been released.
Utterly gorgeous perfume. And the bottle is lovely as well.
It opens like a cup of sweetened spicy green tea with milk. Develops into a latte like smell, I think it’s all the woody notes that come together and create a kind of nutty almost coffee like feeling. The milkyness in this is on the sweet side, but it never becomes too sweet because of the green aromatic nuances from thyme and fern. In the drydown Ananda Tchaï smells like a woody au lait. It’s very milky, soft, warm and sweet – but again there is something that keeps the scent from being too sweet. It’s a kind of clean almost soapy tinge that comes and goes in soft, barely there, waves. I believe it might be the combination of white musk and ylang ylang.
This is a very well balanced scent. It’s a mature and sophisticated take on gourmand. The house of Micallef calls this a spicy citrus scent – but I feel like it is closer to a spicy green woody gourmand to be honest.
It is a fabulous creation. Sillage is quite strong right away but dries down to a strong medium. Longevity is nice, I get over 7 hours out of this.
